Post your answer to the following prompts in the Day 2 thread.
Question of the Day: Now that you have a story to write, where do you want to begin?
You can begin at the beginning, or as the event's action is happening. You can begin any place you want. Sometimes, the end is the best place to begin.
What is significant about this memory, more so than another? How has it impacted you and made you feel about the life you now choose to live?
Is it a feeling of overcoming something internal that held you back and is now freeing, or is it an achievement you would like to share with others?
Exercise: Add one or two other characters and how they either relate to you or affect you within the context of this story. You can either add dialogue or use a narrative background to replace potential dialogue. When you use narrative, the dialogue becomes slightly more general in scope. Direct dialogue shows two or more people having a discussion, and that lends itself to specifics. So, try both out and see what you like best. Remember though, it’s what the story demands and not necessarily what you’d like…
Since you are the main character, what are you learning as you begin to rejoin your society? Our neighborhoods are now so much smaller and that much larger now that the pandemic seems to have lost its momentum. With your beginning, middle and end, does Zoom or new groups you’ve joined online have a place in your story - as comforting places to ‘go’ or as diversions? How has that impacted your own story now that we’re living in a new normal.
Do you even like the phrase, new normal? And, on a deeper level, just what does new normal signify to you? Try to be specific with this. It can be the juxtaposition of what used to be and what is in place today….It can be the momentum that turns your story into a larger through line. So now, we’re now getting into the heart of your story. For now, pay attention to the actions of your character(s) as they adjust to this new normal. And….be sure to post your answers under the Day 3 thread.
