Day 5 - Unlock the Power of Your Story, 2021

It’s Day 5 of your “Unlock the Power of Your Story, 2021” Challenge, and I’m more than ready for more. I hope you are too!

We skipped a few days to pause and refresh. You can breathe a big deeper and relax!

So, by now you’ve had a chance to review and listen to the videos, to gather your thoughts and write your story.

Please remember though, it’s still in draft form so while you write, see it as a whole, a finished memoir of your impression of 2020 and re-entry into 2021. Just write.

By now, you might have a well thought out story that you’ve been writing. You’ve added a character or two and some dialogue. Setting and description play a key role in story work, especially in grounding the reader to the time and place.

You’ve gone over the segmented points you feel are necessary (inner growth items perhaps), and you’ve included others in your story as well.

Now it’s time to write it out (for real and not practice), polish it and post to our group.

Post your answer to the following prompts in the Day 5 thread. 
(you can also find it under UNITS or ANNOUNCEMENTS tab)

Question of the Day: How did you feel about writing about yourself? Did you feel vulnerable and exposed? If so, what sort of feelings and impressions popped up? Were you defensive or completely open to your own personal attitudes and history? Overall, what has 2020 and its effects given you? Insights, awarenesses, etc.

Writing our own stories can be exhausting and enlightening, Is this something you can continue doing? What sort of time can you invest in writing your story? What would help you get to where you want to go?

For the past few days, you have created the pieces that will put it all together and create a memory from your life, one that had meaning and impacted your future.

You can go back and recreate that memory and give deeper voice to who you’ve become – whether a thought leader, a mindset coach or a person who had trauma and was able to let some of it go, come to terms with it and was able to create a life that made sense!

For most of us, 2020 has been quite a year and one we'll never forget. Even though the year is over, the effects won't be over for awhile. We need to write our stories and make our voices known. It's time to become visible!

Today you will work on your draft as a polished two plus page (Flash) Memoir! (It can actually be more, depending upon the storyline and how deep it goes.)

Be sure to post it on the FB page.

I'll be looking at all of them, offering suggestions. And, if you want, we can add a second Zoom call over the weekend or on Monday!

Exercise:

Finish your story! Tie up any loose ends! Take your draft and do a re-write. Add dialogue and description.

Finish it, set it aside for a day and then go back and polish it up. Then post it in the thread. I’ll offer some editorial comments and you can further tweak it for the weekend.

And….be sure to post your answers under the Day 5 thread.
